Izmir November 20 Platform and Izmir Bar Association organized a press conference on November 20 Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Gathering in front of Izmir Bar Association, right defenders said: “Trans murders are political!” in company with the slogans: “We always existed, we will continue to exist!”, “”Murdered trans people are our rebellion!”, “Hatred extends!, the state protects!” and “Despite hate, long live life!”.

Reading the press statement on behalf of November 20 Platform, Elif Soylu said: “We are aware that the motive of ever-increasing transphobia and police / warden violence against trans people in recent years, is the male state which spreads hatred policies and criminalizes LGBTI+s via exclusive practices and discourses. We closely know this hateful policy, in which the male power points LGBTI+s out as a target and tries to achieve political rent by creating social polarization.”

Then, the Member of Board Gamze Şimşek made a speech on behalf of Izmir Bar Association: “We demand to take steps and positive measures in order to perform the positive obligations of the state regarding hate crimes, to end the impunity policy which encourages and protects the law-enforcement officers, to develop rights-based approach particularly to the areas like education, sheltering and employment where trans people are exposed to discrimination due to their gender identity.”
