LGBTI+ family communities responded to President and Chair of Justice and Development Party (AKP) Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s discriminatory statements regarding “Can there be such a thing as LGBT in a strong family?” within the scope of the speech in Malatya.
The whole text of the statement made by Akdeniz Antalya Family Group, Denizli LGBTI+ Families Group, GALADER- Ankara Rainbow Families Association, İzmir LGBTI+ Families Group, Families and Friends of LGBTI+s in Turkey (LİSTAG), is as follows:
CALL US, WE WILL TELL YOU!
We were cited for our LGBTI+ children once again.
Who are we?
We are LGBTI+ families, parents, siblings and relatives.
Everyone talks about us and our children.
We are exposed to imputations as “powerless family”, we are even not considered as a family.
Our children are accused of being “deviants”.
While all this is going on, our voice is not heard.
CALL US, WE WILL TELL YOU!
Let us tell it once in the (under the roof of the) Parliament.
What is being a family, what is being LGBTI+ family, how to love children unconditionally…
Listen also from us, once!
You are always hearing the voices of those, who accuse, marginalize and exclude us.
CALL US, WE WILL TELL YOU!
We are calling out the political parties in the Parliament.
As citizens of this country, let our voices be heard in the parliament.
Let us to tell about us and our children.
Hear our voice and make it heard!
