Say ‘No’ to Heterosexist Social Work!

Kaos GL Social Work Studying Group has called for changing the working areas of social work together. We are publishing on the declaration of the group who met for uncovering homophobic and transphobic discriminations and changing heteronormative perceptions on the services and politics of social work.

 

We, as social work experts who are against homophobia and transphobia, are meeting for uncovering homophobic and transphobic discriminations and changing heteronormative perceptions on the services and politics of social work by basing on “declarations of sexual rights”.

 

Heterosexism is a kind of racism which sees heterosexualism as obligatory and enforces it as a unique form of existence. By uncovering heterosexism, sexism, racism, fascism, ethnocentrism, militarism, together, we will fight against the discriminations which LGBTI people undergo on the services of social work.

 

We will uncover the homophobic and transphobic practises in the field of mental health which are done under the name of fixing treatment which sees and labels homosexuals, bisexuals and transexuals as ill and guilty.

 

Social work is a job which is based on human rights and social justice principles, which supports social change, aims to strengthen free relationships by solving problems for enhancing people’s level of welfare and for this, interferes in people’s interaction points with their circles by benefitting from people’s behavouir and the theories correlated with social systems.

 

“The areas of struggle” defined by Kaos GL fighting for freeing LGBTI people in Turkey via the fields where the members of LGBTI have problems are creating our working areas at the same time. We will struggle together via the areas of social work by making visible the problems of LGBTI people in the fields like family, working life, education, healthcare, accomodation, psychology-psychiatry, media, human rights, legal system and military service.

 

We, as Kaos GL Social Work Studying Group, announce that with this approach which we improve against heterosexist ideology, we will be defender of the women, disabled people, Kurdish people, Armenian people and every kind of ethnic and religious groups and societies who are expposed to discrimination and whose rights are violated and gasped, too.
