Selman Yağmahan from İzmir Colors of Resistance, who was detained on May 15th for participating in the protests in Van, was arrested.
In Izmir, 19 people were detained on May 15th for their involvement in the Van protests. Following three days of detention, the prosecutor’s office referred 15 of them to court with a request for arrest. On May 18th, arrest warrants were issued for 9 of them, including Selman Yağmahan, a member of Colors of Resistance.
Colors of Resistance issued the following statement on social media following Selman Yağmahan’s arrest:
“Nine of our comrades, including Selman from Colors of Resistance, who were detained and kept under detention three days due to standing in solidarity with the people of Van, have been arrested.
We understand that it is no coincidence that our comrade, who champions the LGBTQ+ struggle in every domain, has been arrested just before Pride Month! Your intimidations, detentions, and arrests will not deter the LGBTQ+ community, revolutionaries, or the Kurdish people from continuing their struggle.”

These acts of pressure against LGBTQ+ individuals, revolutionaries, and the Kurdish community will not deter our struggle. It is not a crime to support the will of the people of Van, who resist the imposition of a trustee, and to stand in solidarity with all marginalized groups.
