The Istanbul Trans Pride Week Committee hung a banner in Söğütlüçeşme after the suicide of trans woman Damla.
Two people were detained after the banner drop of the Committee, which announced the suicide news saying “Trans suicides are political!” on their social media accounts.
They said “’So-called’ trans flag remark used during the testimony of our friends is nothing but criminalizing and targeting us.” Within the scope of the statement made..
Full text of the statement is as follows:
We raise our voice once again from Kadıköy Söğütlüçeşme: WE WANT TO DIE IN OUR BEDS. Neither your police state, nor your torture, nor your investigations will be enough to silence us because we are angry. You owe us a life and our struggle will go on until we get it, we will continue to exist. You may drink soda in order to be able to stomach it, it helps. The ‘so-called’ trans flag remark used during the testimony of 2 of our friends who were detained after the banner drop is nothing but criminalizing and targeting us. We shout out once again, against all the odds, that is to say targeting, criminalizing, murdering, driving to suicide… we, as trans people, are together, we are here. So we exist, my love. Since we did not exist thanks to your tolerance, we will not disappear because of your hatred.”
