“Social opposition has become unable to produce words in the field of LGBTI+ rights” Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

Hakan Ataman, İrfan Değirmenci and Remzi Altunpolat spoke at the panel “LGBTI+'s being left alone in their struggle for rights” organized by Human Rights Association (IHD) Ankara Branch as part of Human Rights Week activities. The panel was moderated by Barış Barışık from IHD Ankara Branch LGBTI+ Commission.

After Barışık reminded that it was the first anniversary of the establishment of IHD Ankara Branch LGBTI+ Commission, the panel started with Hakan Ataman's speech. Ataman used the following statements:

"All inspections, all punishments are focused on rights-based organizations. Recently, the most concentrated among them are the associations operating in the field of LGBTI+. Associations working on the Kurdish issue and LGBTI+ rights are under serious threat. We see that the state attacks associations working in the field of LGBTI+ rights with all its mechanisms."

“There is a demonization of LGBTI+'s beyond demonization”

The panel continued with Remzi Altunpolat's speech. Altunpolat spoke about the democratic opposition in Turkey leaving LGBTI+'s alone. Altunpolat spoke as follows:

"As a result of the rapid transformation of the political climate, the social opposition has become unable to produce words in the field of LGBTI+. This is not something that can only be explained by authoritarianism. What we are clearly facing here is fascism. The left opposition has fallen back in creating words on the LGBTI+ issue in a conspiracy of silence. The fascism we live in today has a biopolitical regime of violence. There is a demonization of LGBTI+'s beyond demonization."

After Altunpolat, İrfan Değirmenci spoke. Değirmenci started his speech by telling about his meeting with Kaos GL Magazine during his student years. “Those three pages were the three pages that changed my life,” Değirmenci said while talking about the magazine.
