President and Justice Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered the questions of journalists, on his return from a visit to the Czech Republic. In response to the chair Republican’s People Party (CHP) Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s remarks to provide a legal guarantee to the civil servants’ right to wear a headscarf, Erdoğan wrote on Twitter: “Let’s not stop there, let’s make additional changes in order to strengthen our family institution, including a man and a woman, and to be confident about the future.” Erdoğan told his drift about the statement to journalists.

Erdoğan answered Zahid Akman’s question: “Were there any preparations regarding the family structure and changes about the protection of the family? Or have you made that decision right away?” as follows:

“The concept of family is a must for us. Because a strong nation originates from a strong family. Now, we have to work on it as well. They recently have permitted LGBTI into society. They are in an endeavor to degenerate our family structure with the LGBTI+ community. In that case, we will do what is necessary. We already know who are LGBTI-friendly. But let’s do the change as a family and see from where he would defend it.”

In addition, Erdoğan said that the Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ, chairs of Justice and Constitution Commissions, MPs from AKP and members of the Central Executive Committee (MYK) had started to work on a regulation regarding both headscarf and the family. He added that they had discussed the issue with the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chair Devlet Bahçeli and they would submit the bill to the parliament “as soon as possible”.
