The first Pride March at İzmir Institute of Technology (İYTE) took place on June 17 (yesterday). Students gathered in front of the campus cafeteria and read out a press statement.

According to the report published by ÜniKuir, highlights from the press statement are as follows:

"Today, we gathered here on the campus of İzmir Institute of Technology to mark a historic moment. This is the first Pride March to take place at İYTE. This march is not just a campus event; it is a voice rising in response to years of invisibility, oppression, discrimination, and denial—a reminder, a call for solidarity. We are here not only to tell our own story but also to carry the voices of those silenced, ignored, and lost."

"Trans women who have been targets of hate, queers who face discrimination in many areas from housing to education because of their identity, and many of our friends whose lives have been taken simply for existing. We are here for all of them."

"This march is not just to tell our story; it is to carry the voices of those silenced, ignored, and lost. We are here for trans women who have been targets of hate, for queers whose lives are made harder because of their identity, and for our many friends whose lives were stolen simply for existing."
