The guest of the online meeting was Tels Quels Association LGBT Culture – Social from Belgium.

The first experience-sharing meeting for the advocacy activities of the LGBTI+ Aging Studies Program was held today, 6 March 2024, from 13:00 to 14:00.

At the meeting, which was attended by 19 people, the efforts of the Tels Quels organization in Belgium regarding aging and elderly LGBTI+ individuals were reviewed and discussed.

Social workers Mélanie Gerrebos and Manon Vleminckx from Tels Quels discussed the social service support, training sessions, exhibitions, and socialization activities they organize.

Manon Vleminckx emphasized that they have put together an experienced team to provide social support and highlighted the various social activities they organize on a weekly and monthly basis. They mentioned that events such as the cinema club are inclusive and welcome people of all ages and sexual orientations/gender identities.

Mélanie Gerrebos mentioned that they run training sessions to combat discrimination against staff in care homes to ensure that LGBTI+ elders receive fair service.

The speakers also discussed their initiative to organize an exhibition to address the invisibility of sexuality among elderly LGBTI+ people. They described how the exhibition featured anonymous body photographs to challenge practices of body shaming within this community.

The event ended with a question and answer session.

The second International Experience Sharing Meeting is scheduled for April and will feature another exemplary international case study.
