Antep Queer made a statement upon the rejection of Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (TİHEK) about the application related to Gaziantep Governor Davut Gül’s discriminatory statements.

Antep 1st Pride Week had been cancelled due to threatens against LGBTI+s and the statement published by Davut Gül on Twitter: ““Some posts are being shared claiming that deviant events would be conducted in Gaziantep. There isn’t any permission or an application about these claims received by the Governorship. And it isn’t possible to permit…”

Activists from Antep Queer LGBTI+ Solidarity and Community had made a denunciation about the institutions and persons targeting LGBTI+s, and complaint Davut Gül to Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye.

Following the rejection of TİHEK, Antep Queer remarked: “TİHEK, a governmental institution, is a party of Davut Gül’s discrimination.” within the scope of the statement made recently.

Whole text of the statement is as follows:

“1. Gaziantep LGBTI+ Pride Week and the events related to it, were targeted by some opposite groups and fake accounts after Davut Gül’s post on his social media accounts remarking ‘It isn’t possible to permit deviant events.’ We were exposed to threatening and insults, our photographs were shared on social media without our consent at this period. We complaint Gaziantep Governor’s discriminatory statements to Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (TİHEK).

The aforementioned tweet of Gaziantep Governor Davut Gül, who exist just in order to provide security for LGBTI+s, which compose a part of the society in Gaziantep, confronted us, that is to say LGBTI+s as a part of society and a fact of life, with violence and threatening and prevented us to access fundamental rights by encouraging other groups and feeding into the whole society. While the hatred and discrimination spread by the Governorship is as clear as a day, we learned the rejection of our application by TİHEK without any reason, with astonishment. TİHEK, a governmental institution, is a party of Davut Gül’s discriminatory tweet.

We witnessed violation of the Constitution, law and international conventions also by TİHEK, as we had experienced the violation of the Constitution, law and international conventions by Davut Davut Gül with one tweet.

We, as LGBTI+s in Antep, don’t give up our lives and rights!”
