TİP LGBTI+ Office reacted against Erdoğan's targeting of LGBTI+s and the declaration of 2025 as the ‘Family Year' and announced their demands for marriage equality: "Let's remove the legal obstacle for every citizen to marry the one they love and start a family."
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech after the cabinet meeting. In his speech, Erdoğan said that they declared 2025 as the 'Family Year' and targeted LGBTI+s by labelling them as a ‘threat to the family’.
LGBTI+ Office of the Workers' Party of Türkiye reacted to Erdoğan's speech targeting LGBTI+s after the cabinet meeting on social media accounts.
‘We call those who declared 2025 as the Family Year to the table,’ said TİP LGBTI+ and announced their demands for marriage equality. TİP LGBTI+'s statement included the following statements:
‘The arch-enemy of the family is the reactionary government that bans nearly 10 million citizens of this country from starting a family. Your efforts to create a climate of hate to make LGBTI+'s families narrow will be futile.
The basis of the family is love, respect and solidarity, not discrimination. Every LGBTI+ is a member of their family, and they build their families wherever there is no oppression and persecution.
We will not allow the patriarchal and reactionary minority to monopolise the word FAMILY. We will persist in a Türkiye where families of all colours exist and are protected, the family will not be a political appetiser for political Islam.
We call on those who declared 2025 as the Family Year to come to the table, let's remove the legal obstacle preventing every citizen from marrying the one they love and starting a family. Challenge!’
