In the workshop organized by Sosyal İş Ankara Branch Women's Commission on December 6, a discussion on LGBTI+ rights and concepts was held under the direction of Seçin Tuncel from Kaos GL Association.

The event started with watching the video “LGBTI+ 101: Basic Concepts from Gender to Heterosexism” published on Kaos GL YouTube channel and presented by Umut Güven. The participants then talked about common beliefs, myths and discrimination regarding LGBTI+ and gender concepts.

Throughout the event, participants were informed about the historical struggle of the LGBTI+ movement, while the Pink Collar Union Working Group gave information about the working life of LGBTI+ employees in the public and private sectors.

Tuncel drew attention to the pressures experienced by LGBTI+’s in working life and said the following:

“The pressures faced by LGBTI+’s in working life combine with discrimination and inequality to create a bigger obstacle. Not being able to come out where you spend most of the day affects not only the productivity of people in their work life but also their health. Trade unions need to advocate more on this issue. Unions need to further strengthen their advocacy areas and include LGBTI+ rights in their main policies.”
