Trans Inmate on Hunger Strike: I Do Not Want To Die!

A trans inmate in Turkey named Avsa told the sexual assault, violence and exile she experienced with a letter to Kaos GL Association. Avsa is on hunger strike for 60 days and was taken from Bafra T-Type Prison to Kocaeli Prison.

 

Avsa had faced sexual assault by a prison stuff in 2009 in Giresun Prison and took it to the court which ended up with the imprisonment of the assaulter. Then she was taken to Tokat Prison for security reasons.

 

Avsa was exiled to Nigde, Gumushane and Bafra following pressure. In Bafra, she faced sexual assault and was beaten by a prison staff in front of other staff. After all she has been through, Avsa is on hunger strike for 60 days.

 

Kaos GL Association will make applications to Turkey Human Rights Institution and the Ombudsman under the scope of its strategic litigation project with TOHAV.
