A new attack took place in and around Bornova Street in Izmir, where trans women have been attacked on the streets for a while. November 20 Association shared the footage of the attacks on November 8 and January 16 and called on the authorities to stop the violence.

Bornova Street and the surrounding streets in Izmir's Alsancak neighborhood have been subjected to yet another transphobic attack. November 20 Association shared the footage of the latest attack on the street, which has been on the agenda in recent months with the attacks of unidentified men on trans women on the street.
The camera recordings shared by the November 20 Association for Combating Hate Crimes, which was established precisely against these attacks, include two attack moments on January 16, 2025 and November 8, 2024. According to the footage, on January 16, a hooded man punches a trans woman on the street for no reason and runs away. On November 8, two men punch two trans women.
November 20 Association made a public statement after the attacks and called on the authorities to “Stop this violence”. The association stated that the same man carried out both attacks and said:
“Two cases of assault by the same person within a month of each other have once again demonstrated the seriousness of this problem. In recent cases, footage has emerged showing an attacker attacking trans women waiting on the street and breaking a trans woman's nose. It is documented that the same offender had previously physically attacked two trans women waiting on the street. These incidents are the product of a transphobic mentality that disregards the safety of trans women.”
The association addressed the authorities as follows:
“We take this instance to call on the authorities: Stop the violence in and around Bornova Street. Bring the perpetrators of these hate crimes, which are documented with video footage, to justice. The protection of trans people's living spaces is a requirement of basic human rights. As the November 20 Association for Combating Hate Crimes, we invite all public opinion to be sensitive to these incidents and to stand in solidarity. We will continue our struggle for justice to be served and hate to end. We are strong together!”
Attacks are caught on camera, but the perpetrators cannot be found!
On December 22, 2024, a trans woman standing on the street was caught on camera when one of the two passing men punched her for no reason and continued on his way.
The November 20 Association, which was established against hate attacks in Izmir in the past months, made the footage public.
The association reminded that hate attacks have escalated in Bornova Street and its surroundings and said, “The latest incident reveals the terrible dimensions of hate policies that threaten the right to life of trans women. A trans woman waiting in front of her own house was subjected to physical violence. This attack once again shows how hate policies endanger social life. We call out to the elements of the system that make this situation possible: The hate policies you incite are killing us.”
