The Turkish Medical Association (TTB) has formed the LGBTIQ+ Working Group to facilitate more accessible, inclusive, and fair healthcare services for LGBTIQ+ individuals. The inaugural meeting of the group took place on Monday, March 11, at the TTB headquarters. Alongside physicians, the Working Group comprises advocates for LGBTIQ+ rights and healthcare rights.

During the initial meeting, it was agreed to draft principles in alignment with existing legislation and to develop a directive text before commencing the group's activities. Medical students and association-affiliated activists, focusing on universal human rights, will be responsible for drafting the principles section of the document. Meanwhile, physicians within the working group will oversee the compliance with legislation and the formulation of the directive part. Following this, an executive committee will be set up.

The LGBTIQ+ Working Group, intended to undertake extensive research concerning both the history of TTB and the history of Turkish medicine, aims to organize numerous workshops, seminars, film screenings, and interdisciplinary dialogues. For the first time, the group will not only include LGBTIQ+ movement but also non-professional people / subjects within health studies.
