Pozitif-iz Association launched “The 2021 Report on Human Rights Violations” experienced by people living with HIV in Turkey.

The association reveals the extent of stigmatization and discrimination experienced by people living with HIV, within the scope of this report.

The report also remarks that the violation of rights against people living with HIV tripled between 2020 and 2021.

140 applications were evaluated within the context of the research. The violations have been classified as: 44 percent were related to right to health, violation based on legislation on access to healthcare services; 25 percent were related to right to work, violations of right based on legislation on work life; 16 percent were related to violation of personal data protection law; 8 percent were related to rights violations based on legislation on criminal law; 4 percent were related to rights violations based on legislation on family law, and the remaining 3 percent were related to rights violations based on legislation on military service.

“Health workers living with HIV had to go to other hospitals due to stigmatization concerns”

The report also remarks a worrisome violation of rights related to health workers living with HIV: “Health workers living with HIV were not able to apply to the infection department of the hospitals where they work, due to being disclosed without their consent, and as a result due to fear of stigmatization and discrimination. As a result of all these problems they had to go to some other hospitals in different provinces in order to access to healthcare services.”
