Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Kocaeli MP, addressed the ‘influence agency’ regulation that was introduced with the 9th Judicial Package. Gergerlioğlu highlighted that LGBTI+ associations are also affected by the draft law.
In his press statement at the Parliament, Gergerlioğlu used the following expressions:
“The 9th Judicial Package has still not arrived, but it is being discussed. While there are many judicial problems, while there should be discounts and amnesties, they are trying to make reductions. There is an attempt to bring an agent of influence law article that tries to stigmatize and convict innocent, innocent civil society members, media members and politicians as agents of influence. The public is reacting to this. There is no room for such a disgrace. We are facing an understanding that is on the verge of a total collapse of civil society. They are also trying to collapse the media. They do not want to hear any oppositional voice. Devlet Bahçeli is always talking about this. They obviously want to establish a police state. They will try to exclude every dissenting voice by labelling them as ‘agents’, ‘traitors’, ‘terrorists’. In the meantime, LGBTI+ individuals also express concern that they may be harmed by this. Both LGBTI+ people and the associations they belong to, their mothers and fathers, are suffering a great deal.”
