DEM Party İstanbul MP Özgül Saki, brought up the discrimination faced by LGBTI+s in the earthquake region, to the agenda at the TBMM.

“We do not forgive the refusal to provide tents to LGBTI+s” Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

In her speech at the Turkish Grand National Assembly(TBMM), Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Istanbul MP Özgül Saki drew attention to the discrimination faced by women and LGBTI+s during the earthquakes on February 6th. Saki emphasized the power of solidarity, stating:

“On the anniversary of February 6th, women gathered in Kadıköy to protest against those who turned a disaster into a massacre. The protesters chanted ‘No forgetting, no forgiving, no reconciliation’. They demanded accountability for those who failed to provide tents to women living alone saying ‘we give them to families’ and who had purchased tents during the earthquake. We condemn the discrimination against the LGBTI+ community during the earthquake relief efforts, including the lack of provision of tents and restricted access to aid due to security concerns. We don’t forgive them. Our feminist and women’s rights activism will continue to fight against those who exploit natural disasters. We believe that solidarity is our strength.”
