Marmara University LGBTIQAA+ Solidarity Network (KuirMar) issued a call for the lawyers of the İstanbul Bar Association, following the rejection of the motion entered at the 52nd General Assembly of the Bar Association, for carrying on Center for LGBTI+ Rights’ studies at the new term as well.
The Network said: “You may prefer to disappear into the woodwork in order to protect your political, professional and profiteering benefits, however we will continue to speak up till the Center is established.” within the context of the call.
“The motion entered for establishing a Center for LGBTI+ Rights was rejected at the General Assembly carried out between October 22-23. Although the same motion entered last year had been approved at the General Assembly carried out on October 21, 2021, the Bar Administration under the Presidency of M. Durakoğlu, did not establish Center for LGBTI+ Rights. As for the application made by the lawyers Kardelen Ateşçi and Gamze Müge Kan regarding the center in after general assembly, was rejected on the grounds of “existing a subgroup affiliated to Human Rights Center (İHD)”.
