AKP Group Deputy Chairperson Mehmet Muş stated on December 17th that they submitted the Draft on Preventing the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction to the Presidency of the Parliament.
On the morning of December 17th, Turkey's civil society woke up with the news of the draft presented to the Parliament on the evening of December 16, 2020. Although its name mentions weapons of mass destruction, only six of the 43 articles in the proposal are related to it. Nevertheless, the proposal amends seven articles of Turkey's Law on Associations that directly control associations and four articles of the Law on Fundraising, which regulates the activities of the associations.
Kaos GL Association prepared an explanatory note regarding this draft, in line with its aim to strengthen the LGBTI+ community with notes published in thematic fields.
The explanatory note prepared by Att. Kerem Dikmen, the Legal Coordinator of Kaos GL, assesses the proposed amendments and the possible consequences of these changes in terms of LGBTI+ associations and civil society in general.
