Human Rights Association (IHD) İstanbul Branch LGBTI+ Committee: “We are aware that the main purpose of alterations regarding the protection of the family is to increase the oppression against women and LGBTI+s.”
IHD İstanbul Branch LGBTI+ Committee published a statement about the hatred policy targeting women and LGBTI+s in recent years, under the color of “protection of the family”.
The Committee said “Let us alone, keep your nose out of our lives!” addressing the government:
“The government has recently announced that they would make some alterations regarding especially the protection of family, within the context of a constitutional amendment package. We are aware that the main purpose of alterations regarding the protection of the family, is to further increase the oppression against women and LGBTI+s. The Republic of Turkey carries out highly discriminatory policies against LGBTI+s and points them out as a target of violence, as a state policy for a while. This policy is clearly both a violation of the domestic law in Turkey and the international conventions to which Turkey is a party.”
