The joint statement with 50 signatories demands the end of discriminatory and unlawful attitude against LGBTI+ students from the Hacettepe University Presidency.
Student clubs, LGBTI+ and human rights organizations issued a joint statement against the Presidency of Hacettepe University's oppression and censorship on the Queer Studies Society and LGBTI+ students.
The statement, with its 50 signatories including LGBTI+ associations, non-governmental organizations and student clubs, demands the end of the discriminatory and unlawful attitude against LGBTI+ students from the Presidency of Hacettepe University.
The full statement is as follows:
"We stand in solidarity with our student friends against the systematic oppression and censorship policy of the Presidency of Hacettepe University against the Queer Studies Society. We condemn and reject the Presidency's attitude, which disregards the principles of equality, human rights and academic freedom.
“It is our call to the Presidency of Hacettepe University: Acting in accordance with universal ethical principles, fulfilling your responsibilities arising from the constitution and laws, and complying with fundamental human rights are among the requirements of a democratic social order. We demand that you abandon your discriminatory and unlawful attitude towards your LGBTI+ students and fulfill your obligations properly.
"We stand by our friends and the Queer Studies Society in their struggle!"

What’s happening in Hacettepe University?
In December, Hacettepe University Queer Deer Community (Queer Deer) reported the censorship practice of the university presidency on the community by citing the indefinite Ankara LGBTI+ activity ban, which the courts found unlawful.
According to Queer Deer's report, the video prepared by the community was not published in the database where the videos of other communities were broadcasted during the orientation period, and their request for information was not responded. After their lawyer contacted the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, the school administration cited the indefinite LGBTI activity bans, which were issued by the Governorate of Ankara in 2017 and 2018 but found unlawful and canceled by the court.
