Gay movement in Albania takes a step further by lobbying directly to political parties one year before the elections.

The left wings major party of Albania, the Socialist Party refuses once again to take a public stand on LGBT issues.

“Pro LGBT” and the “Alliance Against Discrimination” two very active LGBT organizations in the country came to a conclusion that the leading opposition party in Albania is still not willing to publicly support the gay movement in Albania, although some very important figures inside the party are in favor of human rights and LGBT rights when they talk face to face to the activists.

Last week, just a day before the General Assembly of SP, an MP from SP, Erjon Brace who is well known for his open communication with the voters through social networks asked if people could give their opinion, concerns and questions for the SP.

LGBT activists repeated the question but the SP again refused to take a public stand.

The question for which we are still waiting for a public response is:

Does the Socialist Party have an official and public stand on the LGBT issues? Does this party have an opinion regarding the attempts of the gay movement to improve the legislation (recently we adopted together with the Ombudsman a suggestion for the Parliament to introduce in the Penal code the concept of the hate crimes laws and hate speeches, etc)? Does this party have an opinion regarding the work that gay movement is doing to decriminalize in the social and cultural context the homosexuality?
