The lawyers demanded an acquittal in the fourth hearing of the trial, in which 70 students, including a journalist, detained under torture during 9th Boğaziçi Pride March, are being prosecuted due to attending the march.

The demand for acquittal regarding the case, which was brought on the grounds of violating Law no. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations and “using force against a public official”, is based on the grounds that the march was legal.

The hearing was also followed by representatives from Media and Law Studies Association, Bar Human Rights Committee of England&Wales, Euromed Rights, USA, Holland and German consulates, Civic Spaces Studies Association and UniKuir.

The hearing, which was reported by Elif Akgül from the Media and Law Studies Association, was held on November 2nd at the Istanbul 58th Criminal Court of First Instance.

Akgül also included the statements of two students who spoke in their defense. During the hearing, the students stated that the campus is a space for freedom of expression and that the police blocked them from the moment they gathered to march.

The court decided to request the records of the incident from Boğaziçi University and announced its interim decision in the hearing. The trial has been postponed to February 23, 2024.
