The brochure which is called “How to Protect LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Students from the Pressure of Family and School” is prepared by psychological counsellor Yasemin Şafak.
A member in Education Group of Kaos GL Advisory Board, Şafak said that the need for such a brochure became apparent during workshops she conducted with teachers.
The brochure gives information under the titles “How to Protect LGBT Student from the Pressure of Family and School”, “Sex, Gender and Gender Identity”, “Sexual Orientations, LGBT Terms and Definitions”, “Discrimination Ideologies Against LGBT People”, “Scientific Truths vs. General Myths About Homosexuality” and ends with “Advices for Teachers Dealing With LGBT Students and Their Parents”.
Kaos GL Will Keep up with Teachers’ Trainings
Experts from Kaos GL Association who organized trainings for Psychological Counselling teachers tell about how teachers can develop strategies against homophobic discrimination in classroom and at school.
Trainings put great emphasis on a rights-based approach when dealing with students who ask for counselling or those who are forcefully brought to a counsellor. Such trainings have already been given in Ankara as well as İstanbul, Diyarbakır and Çanakkale.
Kaos GL Association will keep up with teachers’ trainings in cooperation with Education and Science Workers’ Union (Eğitim-Sen) during the new semester, too.
