“What is upsetting for me is that we were surrounded by riot police at the gate of my institute where I worked for 14 years, and not to let in the campus.”

Can Candan, not let in campus of Boğaziçi by the instruction of the Rectorate Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

Can Candan who taught cinema for long years and was the advisor of the LGBTI+ Studies Club, was not let in the campus.

Can Candan, who was dismissed from the university by appointed rector Naci İnci  while he was still appointed acting rector of the university, talked about not to let in campus:

“We organized a meeting with my students at 10.00, I was going to have the first meeting of my documentary filmmaking course at the South Campus as an open class today. We came here with my wife from the Department of Sociology, by our car. When they saw me they said “We cannot let you in Professor.’ When I asked ‘Why?’ they answered ‘There is an instruction from the Rectorate.’ I cannot have my open class which I was planning to have. The students are waiting, I am also waiting.”

Candan also added: “What is upsetting for me is that we were surrounded by riot police at the gate of my institute where I worked for 14 years, and not to let in the campus. Preventing the right of education of students and not to let us come together is really tragic.”
