Yesevi Alperenler Association filed a criminal complaint against İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality regarding the opening of Art İstanbul Feshane, which it targeted and threatened during the opening ceremony.
Yesevi Alperenler Education, Culture and Solidarity Association filed a criminal complaint against the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) for holding the exhibition “Ortadan Başlamak” (Beginning from the Middle), which met with the approval of art lovers in Feshane, İstanbul, on June 22.
The exhibition had been targeted through allegations such as “LGBT terrorism”, “sexuality”, “Gezi celebration” and had been attacked by a group people including the head of Yesevi Alperenler Association.
Yesevi Alperenler Association Chairman of the Executive Board Kürşat Mican claimed that the exhibition was “insulting religious values” within the scope of his speech made in front of the İstanbul Adalet Sarayı (Palace of Justice), where he filed the criminal complaint.
Mican had threatened Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality, by saying “We are warning Ekrem, either he removes this exhibition, or as a community we know how to remove it” while targeting the exhibition.
The exhibition was attacked one again on July 4, and a sculpture was damaged by the attackers.
