The last meeting of “Democratic Alliance for Our Rights” was held in Ankara, on January 27.

“Democratic Alliance for Our Rights” gathered in Ankara Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

The Social Policy Gender Identity and Sexual Orientations Studies Association (SPoD) organized the last meeting of the “Democratic Alliance for Our Rights” in Ankara with the participation of democratic mass organizations and civil society organizations.

The meeting which was called together with Kaos GL and May 17 Association was attended by Rainbow Families Association (GALADER), People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) Ankara Provincial Organization, Flying Broom Foundation, People’s Democratic Congress (HDK), 78’ Initiative, Human Rights Association (IHD) Ankara Branch, IHD Ankara Branch LGBTI+ Rights Commission, Research Association for Democracy, Peace and Alternative Politics (DEMOS Research Association), Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (HRFT), Red Umbrella Association, Ankara Bar Association Women’s Rights Center, Social Democracy Foundation (SODEV), Youth Organizations Forum (GoFor), Checks and Balances Network (DDA), Freedom Research Association, Workers’ Party of Turkey (TIP) Ankara Provincial Organization.

The program started with an assessment of the general situation of LGBTI+ rights in Turkey. In the first session, the participants discussed how they perceived and evaluated the current situation.

The second session discussed the tools and strategies needed to build an alliance between LGBTI+ organisations and democratic mass organizations and civil society organizations. The final session discussed how to respond if anti-LGBTI+ discourse becomes widespread during the upcoming local elections and in the possible constitutional amendment process that may be held following the elections.

The program was completed with presentations on the field work of the participating organizations, both for the recovery of democratic spaces and for the public reduction of hatred policy, and with discussions on the possibilities of sustaining the contacts made.
