Detention extended for men accused of ‘debauchery’ in Egypt Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+
The first trial for the men arrested in Cairo following a viral same-sex wedding video took place on Tuesday. The men accused of “debauchery” and “publishing indecent images” have their detention extended by 15 days.

After a same-sex wedding video at a boat party on the Nile went viral on social media last week, a witch hunt started against gays in Cairo. The police searched for the men appearing in the video at gay spots and reportedly tortured the arrested.

“The period of detention might be extended by 4 months”

Maha Youssef from Bedayaa, an LGBT organization in Cairo, is among the ones following the case. Youssef told kaosGL.org that extensions for the period of detention may continue for the next 4 months.

Youssef tells their plan about the case as follows:

“Now we will be hiring a lawyer for them, plus we will start documenting the case. We have someone who visit them every day, we bring them food and all what they need. We have a plan for them if they got released so that they can have safe houses and a psychiatrist.

Bedayaa is looking for international support to help the arrested men.
