DEM Party MP Halide Türkoğlu spoke at the Plan and Budget Commission meeting where the budget of the Ministry of Family and Social Services was discussed.
The budget of the Ministry of Family and Social Services was discussed at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Plan and Budget Commission. After the presentation speech of the Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, the meeting continued with the speeches of MPs on behalf of groups.
DEM Party Diyarbakır MP Halide Türkoğlu reacted to the budget of the ministry with the following statements:
"Discrimination, inequality and sexism flow from every line item of your ministry's budget, but we are also obliged to explain what needs to be done against violence against women. Just as we are obliged to tell and fight against how the title “Services to reduce bad habits and addictions affecting the family structure”, which is one of the titles you included in the budget table, fuels hate crimes, how individuals with different sexual identities are targeted; just as we are obliged to tell and fight against the violence, deepened poverty and labor exploitation that the insistence on war and violence policies creates in women's lives. Today, if the budget allocated to the war had been allocated to combating violence against women and eliminating women's poverty, poverty and violence would not have deepened so much in women's lives."
