The process of gender confirmation, which consists of psychotherapy, hormone treatment and surgical intervention of gender change, is now enabled trough the Montenegrin law.
On July 10, “LGBT Forum Progress” held its first workshop intended for the persons who have the plan to access their gender confirmation trough the national health system. Mira Boskovic, the member of LGBT Forum Progress, shared her experience with the participants of the workshop. Boskovic has successfully finished the process of gender confirmation a few years ago.
The process of gender confirmation, which consists of psychotherapy, hormone treatment and surgical intervention of gender change, is now enabled trough the Montenegrin law. Through the changes of Law on Health insurance, Montenegro has confirmed its dedication to the politics of equality.
Among the present ones, there were two persons who were unconfirmed by their gender and which plan to start the described process. Boskovic pointed out that the successful ending of the process makes the life of a transgender person more dignified and emotionally more quality. Boskovic answered to the numerous questions from the transgender persons who attended the workshop trying to contribute to the understanding of the process and also to point out to the key role of the health institutions and the health workers, especially psychiatrists.
The conclusion of the workshop was that the participation of two transgender persons at the “Eurogames”, the largest European sport manifestation, was extremely important for the acceptance and the development of their quality social life. Sport delegation of the LGBT Forum Progress, sponsored by the Government of Montenegro, participated on the recently finished “EuroGames” and made great results.
LGBT Forum Progress has from its founding made an honest effort so they could help the integration of transgender persons and experiences into the society.
