The MLSA Legal Unit, in the petitions submitted to the courts, stated that the continued detention of the journalists is unlawful and requested their release along with the issuance of the preliminary proceedings report.

The indictments prepared for journalists Yıldız Tar and Elif Akgül, who were arrested on February 21, 2025, as part of the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) investigation, have been completed. The Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) has submitted a request to the court for both journalists to be released and tried without detention.
According to MLSA’s statement, Elif Akgül’s indictment is being reviewed by the Istanbul 25th High Criminal Court, while Yıldız Tar’s is being reviewed by the Istanbul 26th High Criminal Court. Legally, the courts have two weeks to examine the indictments. If accepted, hearing dates will be scheduled for both journalists.
According to a report by the 24 Saat news site, the MLSA Legal Unit, in petitions submitted to the courts, stated that the journalists’ continued detention is unlawful and requested their release with the issuance of the preliminary proceedings report. If the request is accepted, Yıldız Tar and Elif Akgül will be tried without pretrial detention.
