ITU CinsArı: We don’t want homophobic Rector! Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

Istanbul Technical University Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Studies Club ITU Cins Arı made a statement yesterday at 14:00 in front of the ITU Academic Presidency, against the appointment of AKP parliamentary candidate Melih Bulu to the presidency of Boğaziçi University.

In the statement, the sexual orientation and gender identity-based rights violations experienced by LGBTI+ students of ITU were also mentioned. In the statement, the students said "If we do not cooperate as ITU students, our rights will continue to be usurped", and explained the problems experienced on the campus as follows:

“Priorly we were able to put our posters up on the campus but they don't allow it now, under the pretext of renovation. They do not allow our LGBTI+, trans flags. These flags are our flags and they don't pose a problem. Even today, we had to get permission from the security chiefs while entering the school with our flags, they kept us at the gates.”

Declaring their solidarity with students from Boğaziçi and METU, ITU students said, “We do not allow any more of our rights to be usurped. We are standing together with our friends in the METU Pride Parade trials and our friends who oppose the trustee president at the Boğaziçi University”.

Statement ended with the slogans of “We don’t want a trustee president”.
