Kaos GL representative Nevin Öztop has been invited to the Advisory Board that AWID is seeking to assemble to provide guidance and feedback to a mapping of resources that are being developed on women’s rights in transitions to democracy.
This mapping is part of a work intended to provide an opportunity for women from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to strengthen ties to women’s rights movements in other regions and to learn from past experiences of promoting women’s rights in contexts of transition.
The mapping aims to build on and respond to some of the on-going debates among women’s rights activists in the MENA region in terms of how they can most effectively engage in and influence current transition processes.
Nevin Öztop will contribute with sources to include in the mapping in the following themes:
- Women and transitions to democracy/ Women’s pathway to democracy
- Country cases on women and democracy
- Women’s rights in democratization
- Religious fundamentalisms in transition
- Women and political parties in transition
- Political empowerment as a tool for women’s transition to democracy
- Political Islam and women’s pathway to democracy
- Citizen engagement in times of transition
- Transitional justice
- Building cross-movement collaboration in transitions
- Constitutional reform and women’s rights
Öztop also serves as Kaos GL’s representative in the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) Committee’s Executive Board and Global Fund for Women’s Advisory Board.
