The Young LGBTI+ Association is calling for the trial of Hande Buse Şeker, a sex worker and trans woman who was killed by a police officer in 2019.

Let’s get together on the 6th of November for the case of Hande Buse Şeker! Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

The association called for the hearing to be held at the İzmir 4th Heavy Penal Court (Bayraklı Courthouse) on Monday November 6th at 10.40 am and made the following demand:

“At the last hearing, the fact that the file had not been physically returned from the Forensic Medicine Institution was the reason for the postponement of the hearing to the date indicated. It’s therefore very important that you attend and show your support for this hearing which is crucial for the case to progress.

The police, who are basically responsible for the safety of the public, expose the groups, who are most targeted in society and who live in the face of violence, to all kinds of violence and sometimes even to the deprivation of the right to life, as we have seen in the concrete case. This is why we feel obliged to remember/remind and repeat as loudly as possible: Trans people who are sex workers are not alone.

We would like to remind you that solidarity keeps us alive, and we would like to reiterate our invitation to everyone to be part of this hearing and this solidarity.

Wishing you a time without violence.”
