The 2nd Green Left Party Extraordinary Congress was held on October 16, at the hall of Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB).

Having completed the organization in 46 provinces, short time ago, Green Left Party qualified to enter the elections.

“We will win together” was the major message given within the scope of the Congress. “No to war, occupation and expansionism”, “Change the system not the climate”, “Democrat budget against pillage and exploitation”, “A peaceful, equal, free and green world”, “We have the power to change; now it is time for women” were also among the messages given via the banners hanged.

Ayşe Erdem, Co-chair of the Green Left Party, which is considered among the alternative parties in case of the closure of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP), said:

“As the election period started, our committees should work hard and prepare themselves overwhelmingly. We have been experiencing a period, in which the government attacks individuals using all repressive state apparatuses, and the violence against women and LGBTI+s gradually increases. The unlawfulness is everywhere and the acquired rights of women are being removed. The attacks targeting the co-chairs system mean another attack against women, in politics. Hereby, I would like to send my compliments to all women politicians in the prisons, in the person of Figen Yüksekdağ and Aysel Tuğluk.”

Following the speeches of representatives from political parties and non-governmental organizations, Çiğdem Kılıçgün and İbrahim Akın were elected as co-spokespersons.

60-member party assembly was also elected within the scope of the Congress. LGBTI+ activist Remzi Altunpolat took part among the people elected to the Party Assembly.
