Kaos GL organized a two-day LGBTI+ Journalism Workshop at the Journalists’ Association Press House.
Kaos GL organized an LGBTI+ Journalism Workshop hosted by the Journalists' Association Press House on November 7-8. Journalists, communication students and rights advocates from Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Van, Muğla, Kocaeli and Mersin discussed the methods and possibilities of a journalism centered on LGBTI+ rights for two days.
On the first day of the workshop, Kaos GL Human Rights Monitoring Specialist Defne Güzel presented the 2023 Human Rights Monitoring Report prepared by the association with the subtitle “No Giving Up” as well as the Status of LGBTI+ Workers in the Private Sector and Public Sector reports. After Güzel's presentation, the participants discussed both the current situation in LGBTI+ rights in Turkey and news recommendations.
On the first day of the workshop, KaosGL.org Editor-in-Chief Yıldız Tar presented the 2023 Media Monitoring Report titled “Hand in Hand Against Hate”. The participants analyzed hate speech, discriminatory language and prejudice in the texts through news samples.
On the second day of the workshops, the participants presented previously published news of their choice and discussed the problems in these news.
