On the 30th year of YÖK’s establishment on October 30 Sunday, Students Against Homophobia and Transphobia were on the streets.

On the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), on Sunday, 30th of October, Students Against Homophobia and Transphobia were on the streets. With the idea of “No Gender Identity Discrimination in Education”, students against homophobia and transphobia attending the demonstration against Council of Higher Education, shouted the slogan “We don’t want homophobic, transphobic universities.”
“Homophobia, Transphobia and Militarism Kill”
Students protested the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Council of Higher Education. Students came together on the crossroad of Kolej before marching and demonstration in Ankara. Marching against sexism, abuses, oppressions and all the pressures in universities; students against homophobia and transphobia shouted the slogan “At school, work, national assembly; homosexuals are everywhere. Either approve or not, homosexuals are everywhere.”
Marching starting on the crossroad of Kolej finished after the press statement made on Sakarya Street.
30 years ago on 6 November 1981, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) was established by the putschists of the military coup on 12 September 1980. On Sunday (30 October), students in Ankara marked the 30th anniversary of the institution with protests.
Hundreds of students from various universities in Turkey's capital joined the protest action that was organized by the Genç-Sen Students Youth Union in cooperation with the Youth of the People's Democratic Congress and the All Progressive Youth Association (TÜM-İGD), a socialist youth organization in Turkey. The demonstrators met at the Ankara Kolej Square at noon on Sunday (30 October) and walked to the Sakarya Square carrying banners that read "We rise against YÖK and its system".
