The Ministry is once again targeting LGBTI+ persons. According to a report by Sabah newspaper, the Ministry has accelerated its efforts under the Action Plan aimed at targeting the LGBTI+ community.
In May, the Ministry of Family and Social Services released its Vision Document and Action Plan for the Protection and Strengthening of the Family. The plan specifically targeted LGBTI+ persons, referring to them as part of “harmful trends and habits that threaten the family” and labeling them as part of a “desexualization project.” Additionally, the Action Plan set forth strategic goals such as “increasing the effectiveness of international efforts to protect and strengthen the family,” “preserving family and family values in media and digital platforms,” and "boosting family-friendly media productions and digital content while increasing access to them.".
Sabah newspaper published an article titled “President Erdoğan brought it to the agenda: all-out fight against desexualization,” announcing that the Ministry of Family and Social Services has intensified its efforts in drafting a roadmap for activities under the Action Plan.
The article referenced President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s remarks at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, where he targeted LGBTI+ persons while discussing the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. According to the report, the main components of the roadmap, which will specifically target LGBTI+ individuals, will include “reviewing existing legal regulations in light of developments impacting the family and the dynamic population structure,” “identifying needs,” and “establishing new regulations based on family-oriented principles.”
