Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) İstanbul MP Zülehya Gülüm, stated that they don’t admit the attack against LGBTI+s, who aimed to attend Newroz celebrations in Diyarbakır with their rainbow flags, by a group of men.
LGBTI+s, who attended Newroz celebrations in Diyarbakır on March 21, were subjected to an attack by a group of men. The attackers drew out a knife, tore rainbow flags and stomped on them.
HDP MP Gülüm said the followings within the context of the statement made on their Twitter account:
“We don’t admit the ‘attack and violence’ targeting LGBTI+s. Newroz area, where millions of people gather with the aim of ‘defending a peaceful and equal world for everyone’, cannot be turned into an instrument of hate speech and hate motivated actions by any group.”
