On Homophobia and Discrimination with Psychological Counseling and Guidance Teachers

Human Rights Traning for psychological counseling and guidance teachers on “Homophobia and Discrimination” was conducted on 7 January 2012 at Eğitim-Sen (Education and Science Workers Trade Union) Branch Office 5.    

 

With 20 teachers’ participation, Dr. Koray Başar made a presentation titled as “Development of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and LGBT Individuals” on definitions, concepts and historical process. Dr. Tuğrul Erbaydar from Ankara University Medical Faculty Department of Public Health  made a presentation on “Sexual Rights and Reproductive Health.”

 

During the training, psychological counseling and guidance teachers discussed the discriminative practices in their fields at their own schools and the influence of such practices on LGBT individuals under the supervision of experts. Teachers stressed once more the importance of developing strategies that will provide solutions to the problems LGBT students come across through their identity development, protect LGBT students and help students improve themselves.
