İstanbul LGBTİ+ Pride Week Committee shared the latest update on the unlawful detention of non-Turkish citizens, who were taken into custody during LGBTI+ Pride March held on June 25th in İstanbul, and the ongoing process at the removal centers they were sent in various provinces.

“The more you try to displace us, the more we will be rooted together!”

According to the information received by the Committee, the detained Iranian refugee Elyas was released from the removal center in Urfa by imposing a condition of giving a signature regularly to the Migration Directorate and residing in a specific city. And the Libyan refugee was transferred to Edirne Removal Centre from Selimpaşa Removal Centre in İstanbul on August 1st:

“Our objection regarding the administrative detention issued for the Libyan refugee, who is still kept at the removal center, had been rejected under color of violating Law no. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations. We learned that the Libyan refugee had been transferred to Edirne from İstanbul, when our volunteer lawyer went to Selimpaşa Removal Centre on August 3rd. We have no idea what the impact of this referral will be on the scheduled visits.

Our friends are ‘virtually’ being bounced around like human ping-pong balls between removal centers. Although we are very concerned about the restrictions on their communication with lawyers and the fact that they are still deprived of exercising their right to phone, our solidarity continues and we are getting stronger.

The more you try to suppress us, the faster we multiply. Our struggle and flames grow further! Trans people will not leave! Refugees will not leave! The more you try to displace us, the more we will be rooted together!”
