The report entitled “LGBTI+s’ Freedom of Expression and Association during 2023 Pride Month in İzmir” published by Young LGBTI+ Association, describes the on-goings in İzmir during Pride Month chronologically.

Pride Month in İzmir: 60 detentions, 27 batteries, 3 hate protests! Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

Young Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans Intersex Youth Studies and Solidarity Association (Young LGBTI+) published the report entitled LGBTI+s’ Freedom of Expression and Association during 2023 Pride Month in İzmir”.

Against all the odds, the actions and protests carried out by LGBTI+s, and the bans on Pride Month, the hate protests held against LGBTI+s, and the police interventions against the events are described in chronological order within the framework of the report.

According to the findings of the report, which recounts the bans on LGBTI+s’ freedom of expression and association and violations of rights as a result of the banning orders, the aftermath of İzmir Pride Month is as follows:

“A total of 4 events / press statements / march were attacked by the police across the city for 30 days. 60 people, including a child, were detained. 3 incidents of hate speech and threatening behavior were reported. 29 people received battery report and requested support by applying to the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey after the Pride March. 27 of the applicants were beaten during the detention and 2 of them were beaten during the march without being detained.”
