Istanbul’s Beyoglu Municipality which governs the city’s hub including Gezi Park painted the rainbow stairs in Cihangir back in grey. 64-year-old forest engineer Hüseyin Çetinel painted the stairs going up from Fındıklı to Cihangir in rainbow colors last Wednesday. However, this morning the stairs were painted in grey again, the color used to cover the graffiti made during Gezi protests as well.
Resist Rainbow!
LGBT organizations in İstanbul made a call to meet in the stairs tomorrow at 5 pm to turn them into rainbow colors again. Criticism directed at the Municipality points at the intolerance and militarism of those in power, making it the top trending topic of Turkey on Twitter.
