Amnesty International Turkey and Kaos GL Association held a protest on Valentine’s Day against Russia’s ban on “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations among minors.”
Press releases made in front of Embassy of Russian Federation in Ankara and Consulate of Russian Federation in Istanbul drew attention to the restrictions on LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex) people’s freedom of assembly, expression and organization.
It was also demanded during the protests that charges against Elena Klimova, a Russian journalist who launched a support website for LGBTI youth, be dropped.
Following the press statement, the activists distributed cards written “love knows no gender” and “viva gay love” on Konur and Yuksel Streets in Ankara and on Istiklal Street in Istanbul.
