Turkish singer Sezen Aksu openly supported LGBT people during her concert in İstanbul on Friday night. Little Sparrow of Turkish music talked about TV series with a special emphasis on Kayıf Şehir (The Lost City), which starred Ayta Sözeri as a transsexual character named Duygu.

Stating that the others in the series are among us and that we must love and show respect to each other, the singer invited Sözeri on stage for a song. Sözeri sang Aksu’s song Kaçak (Fugitive), receiving a big applause. Then, a huge rainbow flag showed up as part of the décor.

After a short conversation with Sözeri, Aksu shouted “Where are you, my dear?” – the popular slogan of İstanbul LGBT Pride this year – to the audience. İsmail Alacaoğlu, an LGBT activist from İstanbul, who attended the concert said that the concert was “one of the best nights” of his life.

One of the most important singers and songwriters in Turkey, Sezen Aksu is also known for her high sensitivity towards the oppressed.
