Secretary General of UNESCO Commission in Switzerland, Nicolas Mathieu, and Lea Blank, head of Education Department, welcomed the IDAHO Committee Board Member and Kaos GL representative Nevin Öztop and Rainbow Families Switzerland representative Maria von Känel yesterday.
 
The meeting was held on UNESCO’s initiatives and engagement against bullying in schools and cooperation for the upcoming IDAHOT (International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia) actions in different cities in Switzerland.
 
UNESCO Speaks up for LGBT Equality
IDAHO actions will take place in city center Bern on May 17 with the participation of over 30 LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans) organizations, youth groups, many teachers, students and families. The event will host workshops, panels, concerts and free expression zones.
 
Ministry of Education, gender equality divisions of various cities, number of politicians from various political national parties will also be present at the day to address the importance of May 17 by gathering in the main square.  
 
Secretary General Nicolas Mathieu already endorsed the importance of May 17, underlining that fighting against discrimination in any field, including education, is what stands out as the core values of in UNESCO’s missions.
