President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the 7th Ordinary Congress of his party's Istanbul Provincial Women's Branches held at Haliç Congress Centre.

In the congress held yesterday (3 February), Erdoğan targeted LGBTI+'s again. Erdoğan, who has been targeting LGBTI+'s almost every week for the last two months, used the concept of “desexualisation” again at the women's branch congress and said “LGBT perversion”.

Erdoğan spoke as follows:

"At the point we have reached, the situation has started to evolve towards a madness that includes men under the insidiousness of de-sexing. LGBT perversion is encouraged and promoted in many areas by the barons of global culture. It is almost impossible in many Western countries to object to this perversion, which has become so brazen as to legitimise child abuse. It is imperative that we keep our nation away from this insanity, which is wanted to be injected into our lives in a wide range from cinema to fashion, from digital media to literature, from politics to civil society."

Erdoğan added that ‘Turkey will continue to be one of the flagbearers of the fight against this perversion that is getting more and more out of hand day by day’ and continued as follows:

"In fact, our faith, our culture and even our language are absolutely unsuitable for such a sexist distinction. In our country, women have always been regarded as an integral part of the family and society, treated as such, and women have always been respected. If you pay attention, in many of our folk songs, the expressions about women and men are words that do not contain sexist distinctions and only refer to human beings. The concepts of man and woman in our Turkish language also never indicate a sexist distinction, but only the difference in gender.”

How was the Family Year declared?

In ‘Address to the Nation’ speech after the cabinet meeting on 6 January, Erdoğan also targeted LGBTI+s and said, ‘The LGBT issue is one of the most serious threats to the existence of the family today.’ In the same speech, it was also announced that 2025 was declared the Family Year

Erdoğan last spoke after the Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Complex last week. Erdoğan announced a one-day national mourning for the hotel fire in Bolu Kartalkaya and also touched upon the Year of the Family.

Erdoğan, who often targets LGBTI+s with the concept of “desexualization”, used the expression “crusade” in his speech on January 21. Erdoğan said:

"We are implementing measures to strengthen the family within the framework outlined by Article 41 of our Constitution, which states that “family is the foundation of society”. We see that the institution of family is under a multidimensional siege that has been intensifying in recent years. Especially the policies of desexualisation have turned into a global crusade targeting the family institution. In the face of these insidious currents, Turkey is one of the leading countries trying to form a ‘fıtrat-centred humanity front’."

At the congress held on 27 January with the title ‘Shape Turkey with your youth’, Erdoğan likened LGBTI+'s to “plague”. Speaking about the declaration of the Year of Family, Erdoğan targeted LGBTI+'s as follows:

‘We are also taking protective measures for our youth against the LGBT perversion spreading like a plague all over the world.’
